Kerala style anchovy fish curry | netholi mulak fry

Ingredients 

  • Anchovy: 1/2 kg
  • Turmeric powder: 1 tablespoon
  • Red chili powder: 1 tablespoon
  • Pepper powder: 2 tablespoons
  • Rice flour: 1 tablespoon
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon.
  • Onions: 2 nos.
  • Shallots: 200g
  • Garlic: 7-8 nos.
  • Ginger: 1 nos.
  • Coconut slice: 50g
  • Dried red chili: 6 nos.
  • Coconut oil: 1/4 liter
  • Curry leaves
  • Garam masala : 1 tsp
  • Lemon : half piece

Method

  • Today we are going to make Kerala-style anchovy fish curry.
  • For that, cut and clean anchovy and keep it in a pan.
  • Then add turmeric powder, red chili powder, pepper powder, rice flour, and salt and mix it with your hands by adding a few drops of water.
  • Then peel onions and keep aside.
  • Then peel shallots and keep them aside.
  • Then peel ginger and garlic and keep aside.
  • Then wash all these and set them aside.
  • Then slice the coconut into thin pieces and keep it aside.
  • Then slice the shallots and onion separately and set it aside.
  • Now grind the dried red chili and transfer it into a bowl.
  • Then make ginger and garlic paste in a grinding stone and transfer it into a bowl.
  • Now heat oil in a pan and make anchovy fry and set it aside.
  • Then heat oil in a pan and add shallots, onion, and salt and sauté it.
  • Then add ginger garlic paste in to it and mix well.
  • Add those coconut slices when their color starts to change.
  • Then sauté it well and add the grinded dried red chilies and garam masala and sauté well.
  • Then add the fried anchovies in to it and mix and add juice of half a lemon.
  • Now add curry leaves and mix again.
  • Remove the pan from the fire and keep it aside.
  • Kerala style anchovy fish curry is ready to be served.
