Ingredients
- Banana – 3 nos
- Rice flour – 1 1/2 cup
- Grated coconut – 1 cup
- Sugar – 1 or 2 tbsp
- Milk – 1 glass
- Salt – 1 tsp
- Ghee – 1 or 2 tbsp
Method
- Heat water in a steamer and place the idli mould
- Now we have to steam the banana for 10 to 12 minutes.
- Cover and cook them well.
- Remove the lid and check whether the skin of the banana is starting to split in places.
- Remove and peel the steamed banana and allow it to cool.
- Then just cut the banana into small pieces and grind it into a smooth puree.
- Take a strainer ,add rice flour ,and strain them well.
- Then we have to clean and set aside the macaranga leaf (Vattayila leaf).)
- Place the idli mould in a steamer and heat the water again.
- Take a strained ricflour pan and add salt.
- Add hot water little by little, mixing thoroughly with a spatula.
- Then add the ground banana puree and combine them well.
- combine until the mixture thickens up.
- Then add some ghee and mix them well,set aside.
- Take a macaranga leaf and apply some ghee, and spread it evenly.
- Then fill the dough into the idiyappam press and close the lid.
- Then press the dough into a circle shape onto the macaranga leaf
- Then spread some grated coconut on top of the dough.
- Again, press some dough on top and set aside.
- Then repeat the same process for the balance of the dough.
- The idiyappam dough was then placed one by one into the steamer.
- Cover and cook for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Once it is ready, remove the idiyappam from the steamer and set it aside.
- Then pour some hot milk and sugar on top of the idyappam.
- Serve and enjoy the tasty banana idiyappam with tea or coffee.
