Anchovy Fish Curry – Netholi Curry

Ingredients

  • Anchovy fish – 1kg
  • Shallots – 16 to 17nos
  • Tomatoes – 2 nos
  • Ginger – 1 nos
  • Garlic – 7 or 8 nos
  • Green chilli – 3 to 4 nos
  • Curry leaves – 2 or 3 tbsp
  • Tamarind – small ball
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Cumin seed – 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek seed – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tsp
  • oil – 2 to 3 tbsp

Method

  • Firstly we have to cut and clean the fish .
  • Then wash and drain ,set aside
  • Heat oil in a pan add shallots ,ginger, garlic and fennel seed ,saute them well.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and saute till they become soften.
  • Then add red chilli powder and turmeric powder
  • Saute them well for few minutes.
  • Remove from fire and set aside.
  • Then grind the sauted shallots and red chilli powder mix into a smooth paste and set aside..
  • Heat oil in a pan ,add fenugreek seed
  • Add green chilli and curry leaves,saute them well.
  • Then add the grinded mixture of shallots and red chilli powder and saute them well.
  • Pour some water and mix them well.
  • Add soaked tamarind water and mix them well.
  • Sprinkle some salt on them and stir them well.
  • Cover and boil for 4 to 5 minutes.
  • Add cleaned anchovies fish and mix it well.
  • Cover and cook them well.
  • Remove from fire and keep aside.
  • Serve the tasty anchovy fish curry with tapioca or meals
