Vatta ila ada / Jaggery ada / Macaranga leaf leaf ada


  • Macaranga leaves / vattayila : 10 to 12 nos
  • Grated coconut – 50g
  • Jaggery( grated ) – 50g
  • Cardamom powder – 1 1/2 tsp
  • Wheat flour – 4 cup
  • Salt – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp


  • Today we’re going to make vattayila ada
  • For that first collect some vattayila / macaranga leaves
  • Then grate some coconut and keep it aside
  • Now grate some jaggery
  • Then mix the jaggery with the grated coconut and add cardamom powder and mix it with hands and keep it aside
  • Now take wheat flour and add salt
  • Then add cumin seeds by crushing it with hands
  • Now add water little by little and make a dough out of it and keep it aside
  • Now place a steaming pan in the stove
  • Then clean all the macaranga leaves with a wet cloth
  • Then take a ball of the dough we made and place it in the leaf and spread it with hands
  • Then put some coconut and jaggery mix on top of it and spread with hands
  • Then fold it
  • Repeat the same step for all the leaves left
  • Now open the steaming pan and place all of the leaves inside and close the pan and cook for almost 15 to 20 minutes
  • After that open the pan and transfer it in to a plate
  • Tasty vatta ila ada is ready to serve
