Tasty Kerala Style Raw Pappaya Pickle – Instant Pickle


  • Papaya – 2 medium nos
  • Ginger – 2 nos
  • Garlic – 8 to 9 nos
  • Curry leaves – 3 to 4 sprigs
  • Vinegar – 2 tbsp
  • Dry red chilli – 3 to 4 nos
  • Red chilli powder – 1 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard seed – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tsp


  • Firstly, we have to peel the papaya and set it aside.
  • Then cut it in half and remove the seeds.
  • Wash the papaya pieces and set aside.
  • Then chop the papaya and set it aside.
  • Crush the ginger and garlic and keep them aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan,add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  • Add dry red chilli and crushed garlic ginger paste.
  • Saute them well for a few minutes.
  • Then add curry leaves and sauté them well.
  • Then add red chilli powder and saute them well.
  • Then add the chopped papaya and saute them well.
  • Add salt and vinegar ,saute them well.
  • Then cover with a lid and cook for a few minutes.
  • Remove the lid and sauté them well.
  • Once the papaya is ready, remove it from the fire and keep it aside.
  • Once the papaya pickle is cooled, store it in glass bottles.
