Ingredients
- Toor dal – 1 cup
- Potato -2 nos
- Elephant foot yam – 1/2 pieces
- Banana- 2 nos
- Onion – 2 nos
- Shallots – 6 or 7 nos
- Drum stick – 2 nos
- carrot – 2 nos
- Taro root – 1 nos
- Brinjal -2 nos
- Curry leaves – 3 or 4 sprigs
- Grated coconut – 1 cup
- Tamarind – small ball
- Cumin seed – 1 tsp
- Fenugreek seed – 1 tbsp
- Asafoetida powder – 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder – 1 tbsp
- Salt – 1 or 2 tsp
- Oil – 3 or 5 tbsp
Method
- Firstly ,we have to peel and wash the vegetables.
- Cut them well and drain ,set aside.
- Take a pan add chopped vegitables and curry leaves
- Pour some oil and turmeric powder .
- Heat a pan add grated coconut ,dry red chilli, cumin seed and fenugreek seed ,saute them well
- Pour some oil and sauted them well.
- Roasted till they turn golden brown .
- Remove from fire and set aside.
- Heat a pan with vegetable and water .
- Add cleaned toor dal and cook them well.
- Crush dry red chilli into fine powder
- Then add grated coconut and other ingredients into fine paste ,set aside
- Then add some salt to the vegetable cooking pan.
- Take a bowl add tamarind and water ,soak them well.
- Then add the tamarind water into the sambar pan and mix them well.
- Then add asafoetida powder and mix well.
- Then add water to the roasted ground paste and mix well.
- Then add the paste to the cooking pan and boil them well.
- Heat oil in a pan add mustard seed ,let them splutter.
- Add dry red chilli,shallots and curry leaves ,fry them well.
- Then pour fried sauted ingredients into the sambar pan
- Mix them well.
- Serve the tasty sambar with meals .
