Kerala Style Raw Papaya Curry – Papaya Curry


  • Papaya – 1 nos
  • Onion – 3 nos
  • Shallots – 7 to 8 nos
  • Garlic – 7 to 8 nos
  • Green chilli – 2 to 3 nos
  • Curry leaves – 2 to 3 sprigs
  • Tomatoes – 2 nos
  • Tamarind – small ball
  • Cumin seed – 1 tsp
  • Dry red chilli – 3 to 4 nos
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tsp
  • Oil – 3to 4 tbsp


  • Firstly, we have to peel the papaya.
  • Then cut it in half and remove the seeds.
  • Then chop the papaya into small cubes and set aside.
  • Then chop the onion and set it aside.
  • Then chop the green chilli and set it aside.
  • Take a pot, add chopped papaya, green chilli and onion.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and curry leaves.
  • Then add turmeric powder and set aside.
  • Take a bowl, add tamarind and water, squeeze them well.
  • Pour the tamarind water into the papaya curry pan.
  • Pour a sufficient amount of water and salt ,mix them well.
  • Place the pan on the heat and stir them well.
  • Cover and cook them well.
  • Grind grated coconut and red chilli powder.
  • Again, add shallots, garlic and cumin seed.
  • grind them well to make a coarse paste and set aside.
  • Remove the lid from the cooking pan and mix them.
  • Add the coarse mixture of grated coconut and combine them well.
  • Pour in a sufficient amount of water and thoroughly mix.
  • Cook for a few minutes.
  • Remove from fire and set aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seed and let them sputter.
  • Add dry red chillies,shallots and curry leaves, saute and fry them well.
  • Remove from fire and pour the fried mixture in a papaya curry pan.
  • Combine them well.
  • Serve the tasty papaya curry with meals.
