Tasty Kerala Style Chicken Pickle Recipe – Chicken Achar


  • Chicken -1 kg
  • Garlic – 13 to 14 nos
  • Ginger – 1 nos
  • Green chilli -3 to 4 nos
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder – 12tbsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tbsp
  • Pepper powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Garam masala – 1 tbsp
  • Asafoetida powder – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tsp
  • Oil – 1/2 ltr


  • In a bowl, add chicken pieces,turmeric powder, and red chilli powder.
  • Add coriander powder, pepper powder, garam masala, and salt.
  • Mix them well and marinate for half an hour.
  • Then chopped the garlic and set it aside.
  • Chopped the ginger and set aside.
  • Then chopped the green chilli and set it aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add marinated chicken pieces.
  • Fry them well till the chicken becomes light golden brown.
  • Then add some curry leaves and saute them well.Drain and keep aside.
  • Repeat the same process on the other half of the marinated chicken and keep it aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan ,add mustard seeds and sprinkle them well.
  • Then add dry red chilli and garlic.
  • Then add chopped ginger and green chilli and sauté them well.
  • Then add curry leaves and sauté and fry them well.
  • Then add red chilli powder, coriander powder and pepper powder.
  • Then add asafoetida powder and turmeric powder Saute them well.
  • Then add salt and set aside.
  • Then add vinegar and saute them well.Saute them well for a few seconds.
  • Then add the fried chicken and combine them well.
  • Cook for a few minutes.Remove from the fire and set aside.
  • Serve the tasty chicken pickles with meals.
