Kerala Style Chickpea Curry | Kadala Curry

Ingredients

  • Black chickpeas – 2 cups
  • Onion – 2 nos
  • Ginger – 1 nos
  • Garlic – 6 to 7 nos
  • Curry leaves – 3 to 4 sprigs
  • Tomatoes – 1 nos
  • Grated coconut – 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tbsp
  • Pepper powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Garam masala – 1 tbsp
  • fennel seed – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tbsp
  • Oil – 2 to 3 tbsp

Method

  • Firstly we have to crush ginger and garlic ,set aside.
  • Then soak the chickpeas for one or two hours.
  • Then dried the soaked chickpeas and set a side.
  • Heat oil in a pan Add green chilli ,curry leaves and chopped onion .
  • Saute them well.
  • Then add salt and saute till the onion become transulant.
  • Add crushed ginger and garlic mix,saute them well.
  • Then add some curry powders like red chilli powder ,coriander powder ,pepper powder ,garam masala ,crushed fennel seed and turmeric powder
  • Saute them well for few minutes.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and saute till they become soften .
  • Then add soaked chickpeas and saute them well.
  • Pour sufficient amount of water and mix them well.
  • Cover and cook them well.
  • Take a bowl add grated coconut and water ,Squeeze them well .
  • Drain and keep aside.
  • Remove the lid and check whether the chickpeas is well cooked or not.
  • Then add coconut milk ,mix and cook them well.Add some curry leaves,green chilli and salt ,saute them well.
  • Remove from fire and set aside.
  • Serve the tasty chickpeas curry with appam
