Kerala Sadya Koottu Curry Recipe | Koottu Curry


  • Black chana- 1 kg
  • Elephant foot yam -1/2 pieces
  • Banana – 2 nos
  • Curry leaves – 3 or 4 sprigs
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tbsp
  • Grated coconut – 1 cup
  • Red chilli powder – 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Pepper powder – 1 tsp
  • Dry red chilli – 3 or 4 not
  • Mustard seed – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tsp
  • Oil – 2 to 3 tbsp


  • Take a bowl and black chana and water
  • Rinse them well and set aside
  • Take a pan add water and back chana
  • Then add some salt and turmeric powder ,mix well
  • Cover and cook them well.
  • Then peel and chopped the elephant foot yam
  • Wash and drain ,set aside
  • Remove the lid and check whether the black chana is well cooked or not .
  • Then peel and chopped the banana
  • Wash and drain ,set aside.
  • Then take a pan add chopped yam ,turmeric powder and salt
  • Then pour some water and cook them well.
  • Ones the yam is well cooked remove from fire and keep aside
  • Then take pan add chopped banana and water .
  • Cover and cook them well
  • Remove the lid ,and check whether the banana is well cooked or not
  • Remove from fire and keep aside.
    Then we have to grinder grated coconut, into smooth paste and set a side.
  • Heat a pan add cooked banana, black chana and cooked yam
  • Then add grounded coconut paste ,red chilli powder ,turmeric powder and salt ,Saute them well
  • Then cook for 5 to 6 minutes
  • Remove from fire and set aside
  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seed
  • Lets them splutter
  • Add dry red chilli and curry leaves ,saute them well
  • Add grated coconut ,saute and roasted them well
  • Add some pepper powder ,saute them well .
  • Remove from fire
  • Then add the roasted mixture into the koottu curry pan
  • Combine them well
  • Serve the tasty koottu curry with meals
