Rice dumplings in chicken curry /kerala style pidiyum kozhiyum

Ingredients for chicken curry

  • Chicken -1 kg
  • Mustarde seed-1/2 tsp
  • Onion-3 nos
  • Green chilli-3 nos
  • Ginger-1 medium
  • Garlic – 10 or 12 petals
  • Tomato – 2 nos
  • Curry leaves-2 sprig
  • Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
  • Chilli powder-2 tbsp
  • Coriander powder-1 ½ tbsp.
  • Black pepper powder-1 tbsp
  • Grated coconut -1/2 piece
  • Coconut milk-1/2 cup
  • Fennel seed- 1 tsp
  • Cinnamon- 1 med
  • Cloves-3 nos
  • Cardamom-3 or 4 nos
  • Star anise- 3 or 4 nos
  • Salt – to taste
  • Oil- for cooking

Rice dumpling ingredients

  • Rice flour-1 kg
  • Grated coconut- ½ cup
  • Coconut milk-1/2 cup
  • Curry leaves-2 sprig
  • Pearl onion -8 or 9 nos
  • Cumin seed- /2 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Chicken curry preparation

  • First we clean and wash the chicken pieces ,drain the excess water and set a side
  • Then we take a pan add grated coconut and sauted some minutes till they turn golden
    brown
  • Then let it cool and then grind to a fine paste ,keep it in a side.
  • Again we grind garam masala like (cardamom,cinnamon, cloves etc) in to fine paste
  • Then we crushed the ginger and garlic into paste
  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seed, then they crackled ,add sliced onion green chilli,ginger
    garlic paste and curry leaves ,saute until the onion turns light golden colour
  • Add chilli powder,coriander powder ,black pepper powder ,turmeric powder,grinded
    coconut paste garam masala pate and salt mix well and saute some minutes
  • Then we add tomato and saute for some minute till they soft
  • Add chicken pieces add water and mix well,cover and cook untile the chicken is ready
  • Then we add thick coconut milk mix well and turn off the flame.

Rice dumpling preparation

  • First we crush the cumin seed and pearl onion ,and set a side.
  • Add water in a large pan .add crushed cumin seed and pearl onion ,bring this to boil ,keep it
    in a side.
  • Take another pan add rice flour ,coconut and curry leaves sauted well and remove from
    heat
  • Then add boiled to the rice flour and coconut mixture and mix well and make it in to a
    dough.allow it to cool down .
  • Then we prepare small sized balls from this and slide it into the hot water and bring it to a
    boil
  • Then add small amount of rice flour and second coconut milk ,mix well with out lumps.add
    into the rice dumling mixture and cook well
  • Finally we add thick coconut milk and mix well
  • Turn off the flame and serve with chicken cuirry
  • Enjoy the taste of kerala style pidi and chicken curry
