Tasty Authentic Chatti Choru | Kerala Meals

 Ingredients 

  • Rice – 2 or 3 cups
  • Water – 1 or 2 ltr.

Method

  • Heat water in a pot ,cover and boil them well.
  • Wash rice at least 5 to 6 times.
  • Then add rice to the hot water Cover and cook them well.
  • If you press the rice after it is cooked, the rice should be mashable but not too mushy.
  • Now drain the excess water.and place it a slant position so that the excess water drains away.

Parippu Curry -Dal Curry 

Ingredients

  • Onion – 2 nos
  • Shallots – 4 or 5 nos
  • Tomatoes – 2 nos
  • Green chilli – 2 or 3 nos
  • Curry leaves – 3 or 4 sprigs
  • Dry red chilli – 2 or 3 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard seed – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tsp
  • Oil – 2 or 3 tbsp
  • Method 
  • Take a big bowl and add toor dal and water.
  • Rinse them well for two to three times.
  • Drain and set aside
  • In a pan, add cleaned toor dal,chopped onion,tomatoes,chopped green chilli and curry leaves.
  • Then add some curry powders like red chilli powder and turmeric powder.
  • Add some salt and  sufficient amount of water,mix them well.
  • cover and cook them well.
  • Remove the lid and add asafoetida powder and mix them well.
  • cook for few minutes.
  • Remove from fire and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan .
  • Add mustard seeds, letting them crakle.
  • Add dry red chilli and shallots ,Sauté them well.
  • Then add the curry leaves and fry them well.
  • Then pour the fried ingredients into the dal curry pan and mix them well.

Potato fry

Ingredients

  • Potatoes – 3 or 4 nos
  • Garlic – 8 or 9 nos
  • Green chilli – 2 or 3 nos
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp
  • Cumin powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Garam masala – 1/2 tbsp
  • Pepper powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tsp
  • Oil – 2 or 3 tbsp

Method

  • Firstly we have to peel the potatoes
  • Then chopped the potatoes into medium-sized cubes
  • Wash them well and set aside
  • Heat oil in a pan 
  • Add chopped garlic and saute them well.
  • Then add red chilli powder and cumin powder.
  • Add garam masala and pepper powder.
  •  Saute well till the raw smell disappears.
  • Sprinkle some salt and saute them well.
  • Cover and cook them well.
  • Remove the lid  and continue to stir often and cook till the potatoes are lightly crisp.
  • Remove from fire and set aside.
  • Long Green Bean Stir Fry

Ingredients

  • Long green bean – 1 kg
  • Onion -2 nos
  • Green chilli – 3 or 4 nos
  • Curry leaves – 2 or 3 sprigs
  • Grated coconut – 1/2 cup
  • Dry red chilli – 3 or 4 nos
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tsp
  • Oil – 2 or 3 tbsp

Method

  • First we have to wash and drain the long bean ,set aside.
  • Then chop the long bean into small pieces
  • Heat oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds and let them crackle.
  • Then add the dry red chilli and curry leaves .
  • Sauté them well.
  • Then add chopped long beans, onion, and green chilli
  • Then sprinkle  some salt and saute them well.
  • Cover and cook for some minutes.
  • Then remove the lid and sauté them well.
  • Add grated coconut and mix it well.
  • cover and cook till the bean become soften.
  • Remove the lid and saute them well.
  • Remove from fire and set aside.

Boiled Tapioca

Ingredients

  • Tapioca – 1 kg
  • Green chilli – 2 to 3 nos
  • Garlic – 6 or 7 nos
  • Cumin seed – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tsp

Method 

  • Heat water in a pan 
  • The tapioca should then be peeled and set aside.
  • Then chopped into small cubes.
  • Then wash and clean the tapioca two to three times.
  • Then, drain and set aside.
  • Then add the cleaned tapioca to the hot water pan.
  • cover and boil them well.
  • Then grind green chilli,garlic ,cumin seed and turmeric powder into a smooth paste
  • Remove the lid and please check when the tapioca pieces are getting cooked.
  • Do not overcook the tapioca.
  • Then drain all the water.

Moru curry

Ingredients

  • Curd – 1 cup
  • Shallots – 3 or 4 nos
  • Garlic – small piece
  • Garlic – 5 or 6 nos
  • Green chilli – 2 or 3 nos
  • Dry red chilli – 2 or 3 nos
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tsp
  • Oil – 2 or 3 tbsp

Method

  • Take a bowl add curd .
  • Then mix with a wooden hand blender and set aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan .
  • Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and let them crackle.
  • Then add shallots ,ginger, garlic,dry red chilli and green chilli
  • Sauté them well.
  • Then sprinkle some turmeric powder and mix them well.
  • Then add asafoetida powder and salt.
  • mix them well.
  • Then boil for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Remove it from the heat and set it aside.

coconut chutney

Ingredients

  • Grated coconut – 1/2 pieces
  • Dry red chilli – 5 or 6 nos
  • Shallots – 6 to 7 nos
  • Garlic – 6 or 7 nos
  • Tamarind- small piece
  • Curry leaves – 2 or 3 sprigs
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tbsp

Method

  • Firstly grill the dry red chilli and set aside.
  • Wash them well and drain ,set aside.
  • Then grind grilled dried chilies and salt.
  • Then add tamarind and grind them well.
  • Again add crushed grated coconut  and grind them well.
  • Now we have to crush shallots,ginger ,garlic and curry leaves
  • Then combine them well and make a coarse mix.
  • Then transfer into a bowl and set aside.

Final making of clay pot chatti choru

  • Take a pot and place a banana leaf sheet
  • To the leaf serve the rice, Boiled tapioc and potato fry
  • Then place long bean stir fry, beetroot pickle, chutney and Parippu Curry 
  • Enjoy the tasty chatti choru
