Dates puli inji


  • 15 dates
  • 2 balls jaggery (melted)
  • 1 tsp tamarind paste
  • 75-100 gm grated ginger
  • 2 bulbs of garlic
  • 5-6 green chillies
  • 3 bunches curry leaves
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tsp chilli powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • Salt as required


  • Heat oil in a pan and splutter the mustard seeds
  • Sauté ginger, garlic, green chillies and curry leaves in it
  • After the water from the ginger has completely evaporated, add chilli powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder
  • Sauté until the raw smell is off
  • Into it add the melted jaggery and water if required
  • Now add the tamarind paste or tamarind water and salt as required
  • Add the dates and mix well
  • Cook until the dates are cooked soft and the water gets reduced.
