Kerala style papaya stir fry-omakka


  • Papaya-2 medium
  • Green chilli-4 or 5
  • Pearl onion-6 or 7 nos
  • Curry leaves-3 sprigs
  • Mustard seed-1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder-1 bsp
  • Salt -2 tbsp
  • Oil-4 tbsp
  • Water -1 cup


  • First we peel the papaya, cut into half, and scoop out the seeds using a knife. and cut it into
    a small pieces
  • Take a pan add papaya ,turmeric powder, salt and water, cover and cook well till the papaya
    become soft
  • Again we grind green chilli and pearl onion into fine paste.
  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seed, Once they start to splutter, reduce to a low flame,
  • Add the grinded green chilli and pearl onion ,mix well
  • Add curry leaves and salt to taste, saute well and cook for some minutes
  • Finally we add cooked papaya into the pan, and cook for some minutes
  • Turn off the flame and serve with meals
