Kerala style sardine curry


  • Sardine – 1kg
  • Garlic – 6 to 7 nos
  • Ginger – 1nos
  • Onion – 2 nos
  • Tomato – 2 nos
  • Malabar tamarind – 3 to 4 nos
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2tbsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1 ½ tbsp.
  • Fenugreek powder – 1/2tsp
  • Fenugreek – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1or 2 tsp
  • Oil- 7 to 8 tbsp


  • Heat oil in a pan and add fenugreek.
  • Then add chopped ginger and garlic and saute for a few seconds.
  • Add chopped onions and saute them well.
  • Now add some chopped green chili and saute them well.
  • Then add some curry powders, such as turmeric powder and red chili powder and saute them well for a few minutes.
  • Add soaked Malabar tamarind and water combine them well.
  • Again, add sufficient amount of water for sardine curry and stir and boil them well.
  • Once the masala gavy is well boiled, add the cleaned sardine fish and mix it with a spatula.
  • Then cook for a few minutes.
  • Add chopped tomatoes on top of the curry and cook well.
  • If the sardine fish curry is well cooked, add some fenugreek powder.
  • Then pour some fresh coconut oil on top of the curry.
  • Stir them well, remove from the fire and set aside.
  • Serve the tasty sardine fish curry with tapioca or meals.
