*Purple yam – 1 kg.
*Grated coconut – 1 cup.
*Dried chilies – 8 nos.
*Garlic – 3 nos.
*Shallots – 4 nos.
*Cumin – 1 teaspoon.
*Curry leaves – 1 stem.
*Turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon.
*Salt – as required.
*Water – to cook.
1 Peel purple yam and clean. In a pot with water add purple yam and keep it to cook.
2 Make a paste of grated coconut, dried chilies, turmeric powder, garlic, and cumin.
3 When the purple yam is cooked, mash it with a spoon. Add the prepared paste and season with salt. Remove it from the flame.
4 For tempering, heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard. Saute in shallots, dried chilies, and little grated coconut and fry till the coconut gets crunchy. Add the seasoning to the curry
