Kerala Style Tapioca & Mackerel Curry Recipe | Kappa & Ayala Curry

Ingredients

  • Mackerel fish- 1 kg
  • curry leaves – 3 or 4 sprigs
  • Shallots – 9 or 10 nos
  • Green chilli – 3 nos
  • Ginger – 1 nos
  • Garlic – 5 or 6 nos
  • Malabar tamarind – 4 or 5 pieces
  • Red chilli powder – 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seed – 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek seed – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tsp
  • oil – 2 or 3 tbsp

Method

  • Take a bowl add malabar tamarind and water soak them for 15 minutes .
  • Cut and cleaned the mackerel fish
  • Then take a pan add cleaned mackerel fish and salt mix them well.
  • Then add clear water and wash them properly .
  • Now we have to cut the cleaned mackerel fishes into medium size pieces ,set aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seed and fenugreek seed ,let them splutter for a few seconds.
  • Then add some curry leaves and saute for few seconds.
  • Add chopped shallots and green chilli ,saute them well.
  • Then add chopped ginger and garlic ,saute till shallots become transluent .
  • Then add dry spices like red chilli powder and and turmeric powder ,saute until the raw smell of the spices completely disappears.
  • Add malabar tamarind soaked water and mix them well.
  • Add some salt and mix them well.
  • Pour some water and mix well, cover and boil them well.
  • Now we have to add cleaned mackerel fish pieces ,and mix well.
  • Cover and cook till the fish become well cooked .
  • Finally add some salt and curry leaves for taste.
  • Remove from fire and keep aside.
  • Serve the tasty and simple fish curry with tapioca.

Ingredients

  • Tapioca – 1 kg
  • Grated coconut – 1 cup
  • Garlic – 4 or 5 nos
  • Cumin seed – 1 tsp
  • Water – 1 or 2 ltr
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tsp

Method

  • Heat water in a heavy bottom pan .
  • Then we have to peel the skin from the tapioca .
  • Then cut it into small small slices .
  • Now we have to wash the tapioca slices , drain and keep aside.
  • Then we have to add tapioca slices into the hot water pan and boil them well.
  • Now we have to crush green chilli , cumin and garlic into fine paste .
  • Again add grated coconut and turmeric powder into coarse paste and set aside.
  • Drain excess water from the tapioca .
  • Then add some salt and grinded coconut mix ,slightly mash the tapioca using a wooded spoon
  • Cover and cook for few seconds .
  • Remove from the fire and mix them well with wooden roll.
  • Serve the tapioca with mackerel fish curry.
