Kerala Style Nadan Dal -Spinach Curry / Cheera Parippu Curry

Ingredients

  • Spinach – 1 bunch
  • Toor dal – 1 cup
  • Onion – 2 nos
  • Curry leaves – 3 sprigs
  • Green chilli – 2 nos
  • Tomatoes – 2 nos
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp
  • Coriander powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Asafoetida powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Cumin powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Dry red chilli- 4 nos
  • Mustard seed – 1 tsp
  • Oil – 2 or 3tbsp
  • Salt – 1or 2tsp

Method

  • Firstly ,we have to clean and rinse the spinach with water ,drain them well.
  • Then chop the cleaned spinach and set it aside.
  • Take a big bowl add toor dal and water ,rinse them well and drain set aside.
  • Then take cleaned toor dal and cooked in a mud pot with enough water ,turmeric powder, curry leaves, salt, chopped green chilli and tomatoes ,cover and cook them well.
  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds and allow them to pop.
  • Add chopped onion and saute them well for a few minutes.
  • Add salt and saute them well.
  • Then we have to add the finally chopped spinach and mix them well and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Add some curry powders like red chilli powder, coriander powder, asafoetida powder .
  • Then add some turmeric powder and cumin powder, mix well.
  • Cover and cook for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Remove the lid and saute them well.
  • Then add cooked toor dal and mix them well.
  • Add sufficient amount of water and mix them well, cook for few minutes.
  • Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Serve the healthy spinach curry with tasty meals.
