How to Make Authentic Kerala Style Jackfruit Thoran


  • Jackfruit -1 nos
  • Shallots – 9 to 10 nos
  • Curry leaves 2 to 3 springs
  • Garlic -4 to 5 nos
  • Turmeric powder -1 tsp
  • Chilli flakes -2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tsp
  • Oil 4 to 5 tbsp


  • First, we have to cut and peel the outer thorn of the jackfruit.
  • Then cut it into small pieces and set them aside.
  • After that, separate the jackfruit and the jackfruit seed.
  • Then chop the jackfruit into small round pieces and peeled the jack seed.
  • Take a heavy bottom pan and add chopped jackfruit, salt and turmeric powder.
  • Then, add a sufficient amount of water,.
  • Now place the pan on heat and cook them well.
  • Then crush the peeled shallots and garlic, set aside.
  • Then remove the lid and stir the cooked jackfruit with a spatula.
  • Once the jackfruit is well cooked, remove it from the fire and set it aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  • Add crushed shallots, mix and saute them well.
  • Add some curry leaves and saute them well.
  • Then add crushed dry red chilies and saute them well.
  • Add the cooked jackfruit, mix and cook for a few minutes.
  • Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Serve the tasty jackfruit thoran with meals.
