Karkidaka Kanji


White rice – 1/2 kg.
Urad dal – 1/4 kg.
Green gram – 1/4 kg.
Shallots – 200 gms.
Coconut – 1 no.
Ginger – 2 pieces.
Garlic – 1 piece.
Cumin – 2 teaspoons.
Fenugreek seed.
Pepper powder – 1 teaspoon.
Turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon.
Salt -as per taste.

*Bring water to boil in a clay pot.
*Clean white rice, urad dal, green gram.
*Chop shallots, ginger, garlic.
*Once water comes to a boil, add white rice, urad dal, green gram, shallots, ginger, garlic, fenugreek seed, cumin. Close the pot and cook.
*Once the contents in the pot is half done, add thin coconut milk and season with salt. Add pepper powder and turmeric powder. Once all content in the pot is cooked, pour thick coconut milk. Remove from the flame.
Serve it in a mud bowl. Use a plavila spoon for traditional flavor.
