Kerala Style Anchovy Fish Curry – Netholi Curry


  • Anchovies- 1 kg
  • Green chilies – 5 nos
  • Shallots – 10 to 12 nos
  • Dried red chilies -3 nos
  • Curry leaves
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp
  • Malabar tamarind – 5 to 6 nos
  • Salt – 1 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Grated coconut – 50g


  • Today we’re going to prepare Kerala style anchovy fish curry
  • For that first cut and clean anchovy fish and keep it aside
  • Then take green chilies and wash them , and keep it aside
  • Then peel some shallots and wash it and keep aside and make it 2 portions
  • Now chop half of the shallots and green chillies
  • Then chop the other half of shallots and keep aside
  • Now take some grated coconut and add turmeric powder, coriander powder and red chilli powder keep it aside
  • Then grind the half portion of shallots in grinding stone and transfer it in to a plate
  • Then grind the grated coconut in the grinding stone and keep it aside
  • Now add this grinded coconut in a pan and add water in to it and mix
  • Then add malabar tamarind, green chilies , grinded shallots , salt ,curry leaves and mix it and keep it in the stove by closing the pan
  • Let it boil , open the pan and add the anchovies and shake the pan by taking the pan in hands
  • Now remove the pan from fire
  • Then heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds , dried red chilies , curry leaves and chopped shallots
  • Saute it well
  • Then add it in to the anchovy curry
  • Tasty Kerala style anchovy curry is ready to serve
