Kerala Style Idiyappam with Spicy Chicken Curry – Breakfast

Spicy chicken curry

Ingredients

  • Chicken – 1 kg
  • Tomatoes – 3 nos
  • Onion – 8 nos
  • Ginger – 3 to 4 pieces
  • Garlic – 10 to 12 nos
  • Cinnamon – 2 to 3 nos
  • Clove – 4 to 5 nos
  • Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
  • Star anise – 1 nos
  • Bay leaves – 2 nos
  • Green chilies – 6 nos
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Coconut Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder- 2 tbsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tbsp
  • Curry leaves

Method

  • For making spicy chicken curry
  • First wash chicken and keep it aside
  • Then wash tomatoes and slice jt and keep it aside
  • Then peel and wash onion and chop it
  • Then peel garlic and ginger
  • And cut the ginger in to small pieces and keep it aside
  • Now grind the spice mix in a grinding stone and make a paste out of it and keep aside
  • Then crush the green chilli in the grinding stone and keep it aside
  • Now make paste of ginger and garlic in the grinding stone and keep aside
  • Now heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds , ginger garlic paste , green chilli paste and onion
  • Then saute it well , stir it till it’s rawness is gone
  • Now add red chilli powder and coriander powder and mix it well
  • Then add tomatoes and mix
  • Then add some curry leaves and the masala mix we made and mix it
  • Now add the bay leaves and chicken to it and mix it thoroughly by adding some water and close the pan and cook for some time
  • Then check whether the chicken is cooked
  • If it’s cooked , remove the pan from fire and keep it aside
  • Spicy chicken curry is ready to serve

Kerala style idiyappam

Ingredients

  • Rice flour – 4 cups
  • Salt – 1 tsp
  • Water – 1 1/2 cup
  • Grated coconut – 50g
  • Banana leaf

Method 

  • For making kerala style idiyappam
  • Take rice flour in a bowl and add salt and add water little by little and make a dough out of it and keep it aside
  • Now heat a steaming pot in the stove
  • By that time take a sevanazi / idiyappam presser and take some dough in it
  • Then spread some grated coconut in the banana leaves and press the idiyappam presser and spread it
  • Then put some more grated coconut about it and transfer it in to the steaming pot
  • Close the pot and steam it
  • Remove from fire when it is cooked
  • Kerala style idiyappam is ready
