Kerala style sardine curry –mathi vattichathe


  • Sardine fish – 1 kg
  • Ginger-1 piece
  • Garlic- 4 or 5 nos
  • Shallot-8 or 9 nos
  • Chilli powder-1 tbsp
  • Kashmire chilli powder-1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder-1 tsp
  • Tomato-2 nos
  • Fenugreek powder-1 tsp
  • Curry leaves-4 sprig
  • Tamarind – small ball


  • First we cut and clean the fish
  • Then we take small bowl add tamarind and water.
  • Then we crush ginger,garlic and shallots into separately and keep aside.
  • Take oil in a mud pot add chilli powder and kashmire chilli powder ,mix well.
  • Add crush shallots ,ginger ,green chilli,garlic ,tomato and curry leaves mix well
  • Again we add oil ,fenugreek powder,turmeric powder and salt mix well
  • Then we add tamarind water and sardine fish and mixwell
  • Turn on the flame and cook till the gravy become thick .
  • Finally we add curry leaves and mix well.
  • Turn of the flame and serve with meals
  • Enjoy the Kerala style sardine curry….
