Kerala Style Onion Thoran Recipe


  • Onion – 36medium sized, thinly sliced
  • Grated coconut – 1 cup
  • Ginger – 1/2 inch piece, finely chopped
  • Dry red chillies – 2
  • Green chilli– 5 or 6
  • Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
  • Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Coconut Oil
  • Salt – As required


  •  First we take a bowl and add onion ,shallots, ginger ,green chilli,grated
    coconut salt and turmeric powder mix well and keep a side.
  •  Heat coconut oil in a pan and splutter the mustard seeds.
  •  Then we add the shallots , dry red chilli and curry leaves mix well and saute
    some minutes.
  •  Now we add the mixture of onion and grated coconut into the pan and mix
    well,cook some minutes
  •  Turn off the flame and serve the kerala style onion thoran into the meals
  •  Enjoy the taste…
