Kerala Style Sardine Curry

Ingredients

  • Sardine fish – 1 kg
  • Shallots – 17 to 18 nos
  • Ginger – 1 nos
  • Garlic – 8 to 9 nos
  • Green chilli – 3 or 4 nos
  • Curry leaves – 2 or 3 sprigs
  • Tomatoes -2 nos
  • Malabar tamarind – 4 or 5 nos
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Coriander seed – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seed – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tbsp
  • Oil – 6 or 7 tbsp

Method

  • Firstly , we have to cut and clean the sardine fish .
  • Then wash and set a side.
  • Take a bowl add malabar tamarind and water
  • Soak for 8 to 9 minutes .
  • Then we have to crush ginger and garlic ,set aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seed and fenugreek seed ,lets them crackled.
  • Add curry leaves and green chilli ,sauté them well.
  • Then add crush ginger and garlic paste ,sauté them well.
  • Then add chopped shallots and saute till they become transluent.
  • Then add turmeric powder ,red chilli powder and coriander powder ,sauté them well.
  • Then add chopped tomatoes and sauté till they become soften .
  • Then add sufficient amount of water and stir them well.
  • Add soaked malabar tamarind and salt .
  • Stir and boil them well.
  • Add cleaned sardine fishes and cover and cook them well.
  • Finally pour some coconut oil and mix them well.
  • Remove from fire and set aside
  • Serve and enjoy shappu style sardine curry with boiled tapioca or meals.
