Tasty Ayala Curry – Thenga Aracha Meen Curry

Ingredients

  • Mackerel fish – 1 kg
  • Shallots – 23 to 25 nos
  • Green chilli – 3 to 4 nos
  • Ginger – 1 nos
  • Garlic – 7 to 8 nos
  • Tomatoes – 1nos
  • Curry leaves – 2 to 3 sprigs
  • Dry red chilli – 3 to 4 not
  • Grated coconut – 1 cup
  • Red chilli powder – 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tsp
  • Oil – 3 to 4 tbsp

Method

  • Take a bowl and add tamarind and water.
  • Soak for 10 to 12 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a pan,add shallots and fenugreek seed.
  • Saute them well for a few minutes.
  • Then add red chilli powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder.
  • Saute them well till the raw smell completely disappears.
  • Remove from the heat and set aside
  • Then crush the ginger and garlic ,set them aside.
  • Then grind the roasted shallots into a fine paste.
  • Again, add the grated coconut and grind them well to make a coarse paste,set aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add chopped shallots.
  • Then add the crushed ginger and garlic.
  • Saute them well for a few minutes.
  • Then add curry leaves and green chilies.
  • Saute them well for a few minutes.
  • Add the grounded coconut mix and combine them well.
  • Then, pour a sufficient amount of water over them and thoroughly mix them.
  • Then add soaked tamarind water and mix them well.
  • Sprinkle some salt and mix them well.
  • Add cleaned mackerel and chopped tomatoes.
  • combine them well.
  • cover and cook till the fish is well cooked.
  • Remove the lid and mix them well.
  • Then cook for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Remove from the heat and set aside.
  • In a pan, heat the oil and add the dried red chili.
  • Saute them well.
  • Then add shallots and saute them well.
  • Add green chilies and curry leaves.
  • Saute and fry them well.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and add the fried mixture to the fish curry pan.
  • Mix them well.
  • Serve the tasty mackerel fish curry with meals.
