Alappuzha Fish Curry – Kerala Fish Curry

Ingredients

  • Mackerel fish – 1 kg
  • Mango – 2 or 3 nos
  • Shallots – 15 TO 16 nos
  • Grated coconut – 1 cup
  • Curry leaves – 2 or 3 sprigs
  • Ginger – 1 nos
  • Garlic – 6 or 7 nos
  • Red chilli powder – 2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Fenugreek seed – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seed – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1 or 2 tsp
  • Oil – 1 or 2 tbsp

Method

  • Firstly we have to clean and cut it into small medium pieces.
  • Wash them well and drain set aside.
  • Peel and cut the raw mango, set aside.
  • The we have to crush ginger and garlic ,set aside.
  • Take a bowl add grated coconut and water.
  • Squeeze and drain thick coconut milk ,set them aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan add curry leaves and crush ginger garlic paste
  • Saute them well briefly till aromatic
  • Then add chopped shallots ,saute them well.
  • Then add turmeric powder and red chilli powder
  • Saute until the raw smell of the spices completely disappears.
  • Then add some salt and saute them well.
  • Pour some water and stir them well.
  • Add chopped mango and green chilli ,saute and cook until the mangoes start to soften.
  • Add cleaned fish pieces ,gently submerge them in the curry
  • Then cover and cook until the fish become well cooked .
  • Remove from fire and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seed and fenugreek seed and let them splutter.
  • Add shallots and curry leaves ,saute and fry them well.
  • Pour the fried mixture into the curry pan and mix them well.
  • Serve the delicious curry with meals.
